You definitely need some kind of shopping cart software if you want to be efficient in drop shipping. If you have large budget you may want to have something custom developed but otherwise you'd better look at some ready and affordable or even free solutions.

Merchant Accounts and Payment Systems

You are hopefully going to make real sales which means you have to collect money. While this is a nice thing to do it's not always easy - some merchant accounts can really pull your nerves. So, choose carefully!

  • Paypal - the most popular payment system online. You must accept Paypal either directly or through other merchant system. Unless you sell something that Paypal doesn't like.
  • Sage Pay was recommended to me by software vendors.
  • Braintree
  • Google Checkout - still not available in all countries
  • 2Checkout - one of the oldest and most reliable payment processors
  • Authorize.net - also very reliable, but often is quite a pain to work with them
  • Solve the Payment Processing Problem - a decent review of merchant accounts by Sitepoint

Affiliate Portals and Networks

  • AssociatePrograms is a large portal where you can learn about affiliate marketing and ecommerce, and post your own affiliate program in the directory.
  • ShareASale - general affiliate network
  • Commission Junction - general affiliate network, maybe the most popular
  • PepperJam Network - general affiliate network
  • PostAffiliate Pro - software for running your own affiliate program. This is not something you should do from the beginning, but as your store grows and gains traffic you may want to consider it.

Ebay Guides and Other Auction Sites

Ebay and other auction sites are and remain an option to make money by dropshipping, no matter what some people say. Here is a bunch of good guides that can help you achieve some success.

I've been dropshipping for a couple of years and in that short time have learnt quite a bit. There are some great resources here, in particular WorldWidePants which I also recommend (note I am not affiliated with them in any way, many will agree they are worth at least looking into!).
